Anticipation!

I love September.

Even as a child, I looked forward to September's arrival as it meant a new school year with new clothes, new pencils, fuzzy coats, and in time, the possibility of snow days.

The same magic that accompanied the arrival of September, all those years ago, is still very real  for me. Only now, instead of the excitement revolving around a new school year, it is the anticipation of all those holidays that are just right around the corner.

Yep, all those holidays that drive so many of us crazy.

But that is the joy of anticipating them now.... while they are still weeks and months away and everything is possible. I can let my imagination run wild thinking of ways that I can turn my house into a haunted manor. I can reread all those "how to" articles that gave me tips on how to do things like turn inexpensive chargers into dazzling Thanksgiving table accessories with just a touch of  hammered bronze spray paint. And most amazingly,  I can envision a Christmas where the cards are sent, the gifts are wrapped, and I have plenty of time to sit quietly, listening to holiday music while the scent of baking treats swirl in from the kitchen.

I might be considered delusional because If history repeats itself, the decorating, the crafting, and the baking won't be extravagant. And I've been known to be a little frenzied during the holidays.  But it really doesn't matter. I've lived long enough to know that I can't create a "perfect life" but I can savor those perfect moments that will just happen on their own. For me, all this planning and all this contemplating provides some of those perfect moments. So, until the holidays are a little closer and the festivities actually begin, I'm right here...happy as a clam...anticipating the possibilites.
